DEDE AHMETI - THE BAREFOOTED SAINT
DEDE AHMET Myftar Ahmataj is the cleric, patriot, bektashi erudite, who in essence deserves to be called so. He has remained in the history of bektashism, in the most serious climax of appraisal.
He remains highly considerate not only in Albania and in the local ethnical plan but even broader, in the whole world of faith and predication of wisdom.
DEDE AHMET was the man who could synchronize perfectly life with civilization, faith with wisdom, speaking with acting, wisdom with justice, reflecting this way the real human image. He has been one of the greatest clerics that rarely, very rarely and in great difficulties are born people and epochs.
He is the testimony of faith, a rare demonstration of human miracle, trusted witness of the divine gift, promoter of the new existence, further evolution of Bektashism in Albania, and in all other countries where the heart of faith beats for God, for the Only and true God.
He overcomes time with the holy attributes, giving humanity his soul, hope and unforgettable presence from all and for all, shining messages calling us to the appeal of virtue, in order to transform in flourishing garden the spiritual deserts where it has germinated the indifference, arrogance, prepotency, egoism, and the being found of material life, the appearance of various ideologies and personalities with acts and evil thinking.
DEDE AHMET Myftar Ahmataj was born in Brataj, Vlorë on 22nd of February in 1916. He went to the local school from 1924 up to 1929. In 25th of March in 1937 he joined the army of Dibra, and after having completed it, he wore the Clerical Uniform of Bektashism, Dervish in the Blaca tekke with Baba Zeneli, where he stayed up to 1939. After this he served at some other tekkes like at Baba Muharrem in Elbasan, in Turan of Tepelena, in Vlora up to 1942. From 1942 up to May of 1944 he fought bravely in the lines of the National Antifascists Liberator Army. He was involved in the 18th brigade in the column of Martanesh, Kavaja, Elbasan, Peza. In this Column he was given the grade of Commissar of the Column. In 1943 he was isolated in Portoromano, Durres. After the isolation he passed to the Partisan File of Shijak, where he was seriously wounded.
With the independence of the country on 1945, he served in the Kuzum Baba Tekke in Vlora and was promoted “Baba” up to 1948. In this Tekke he offered a lot of love and respect to people and believer, not only to Vlora people but all over Albania. He served to his people and most of all to his Nation. The period of reconstruction of the country would find him to work through volunteer actions for the reconstruction and forestation of the hills of Vlora with olives.
In 1948 he was nominated in the highest post “World Leader of Bektashi” in the World Headquarter of Bektashi Order in Tirana, where he served up to 1958. Under his direction the Bektashism in Albania had a very impressive growth, at the same time his presentation in the International arena was dignified. His wisdom, oratory, attitude, simplicity, directive skills, gathered to the bektashi tekke love and respect. Master of the Arabic and Turkish language. He guided working groups and special staff in theology, history, languages translating a lot of literature in favor of the bektashism clergy. In this way he would serve to the road of wisdom, its stimulation to all bektashi people, creating special courses for theological calculation history and philosophy of Bektashism.
In 1967 and up to 1980, the year in which he passed away, even though he was sick with war wounds in his body, got to be closed with simplicity and love, he lived at his brother’s, Kadri Ahmataj, house, in Tirana, among believer who followed him with all the strength of their love until time of death.
For special merits in the National Antifascists Liberator Army and in the period of reconstruction of the country, the Parliament accorded him a series of medals and orders.
We remember DEDE AHMET in the immortality of time, which asks for our consideration not to be only emotional or ceremonial but known honor, a well known one. Glory to the Cleric, Patriot, Philosopher and to the distinctive Bektashi.
